Speaking to , DeGale said: "Golovkin? I walk around less than a stone above the super middleweight limit and could easily go down to fight this great man for the middleweight title."

But middleweight king Golovkin, known as "Triple G", is very much a wanted man, with DeGale's friend and fellow Beijing 2008 Olympian Billy Joe Saunders also fancying a crack at dethroning him.

But DeGale has some other irons in the fire if that doesn't work out - including a rematch with his old foe George Groves, who is the only one on the professional circuit to defeat DeGale.

He added: "The Groves fight is always there although my winning the world title, while he has failed three times to do that, kills him.

"But it is a big British fight in which I could wipe out the only defeat in my pro career."

Another option at super-middleweight would be another "Battle of Britain" fight against rising star Callum Smith.

And just as DeGale is prepared to switch weight category to challenge Golovkin, he is prepared to do the same to take on the undefeated light-heavyweight Andre Ward.

DeGale said: "Ward, like Golovkin, is among those quoted as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. It would be an honour to share a ring with him and just as I could go down for Gennady, I could go up to light heavy for Andre."

Last time out, DeGale drew with Badou Jack in a real ding-dong battle over in the US. DeGale has a fight record of 23 wins, one draw and one loss.
