Trump was pushed all the way by Hawkins who was forced to play until 1am the night previously to get over the line in his semi final.
That win for Trump was his 30th ranking title, putting him one behind John Higgins.
Speaking after his victory, he said: “It has been 13 years and it’s not easy to win these events. I’ve played brilliantly some times and still come up short.
“This year I’ve had one of the toughest draws of all time to win this tournament and I’m so proud of myself and am lucky to be in this position.”
Still a way off
Judd trump admits that ranking title tally is still some way off where he’d like his career to be.
He told the BBC: “It’s still a long way to where I want to be in my career but moments like this, you appreciate it. I’ve come here from losing 10-9 in my last two finals here.
“It’s been an amazing season, an amazing five or six years. I would like Barry to win one, just not against me – and I take the rest.”
Hawkins heartbreak
After a terrific week, some big results – and playing the world number one – Barry Hawkins did himself proud.
And he admits there’s no shame losing to the best player in the world.
He told BBC: “It’s been a great week. If someone had told me I’d get to the final, I’d have taken it. I missed the boat a bit. I wasn’t clinical enough in the balls.
“Once I was in the final, you want to win. [The final] was a great game. I’ve lost to the best player in the world. He’s number one for a reason. Just a fantastic player. It’s no disgrace losing to that man there.”

How Trump sank battling Barry
Judd Trump has spoken of his relief after ending his 13-year wait for a second UK Championship title in York.
Trump could only watch from his seat as Barry Hawkins won two in a row to reduce the deficit to a single frame before the world No 1 pounced on a missed red from his opponent with a 67 break that proved just enough to seal a 10-8 win
Hawkins was still not quite done, getting one of the two snookers required in what turned into an epic safety battle that Trump admitted left him fearing the worst. “I wasn’t enjoying myself in my seat at 9-8,” Trump said in his post-match interview. “I was thinking this could be the worst loss of all time, so it’s just pure relief.”

"I take some confidence and keep going. I got in the Masters which was another bonus and I've got to play this man again apparently. So it doesn't get any easier. Congratulations to Judd, he's a phenomenal player."

Winning feeling
The champion with his trophy.
Ranking title number 30 for Judd Trump.
Judd Trump 10-8 Barry Hawkins
He's finally over the line tonight - JUDD TRUMP WINS THE UK CHAMPIONSHIP.
A battling display from Barry Hawkins who fought until the very end.
But it's another victory in a long line of successes for the world number one!
Judd Trump 9-8 Barry Hawkins (71-43)
This time the long brown DOES drop!
Trump has done it!
Judd Trump 9-8 Barry Hawkins (67-43)
A long brown chance left for Trump into the bottom left corner pocket.
Agonisingly for him, it bounces around and flies away to safety.
Another chance gone for Trump to wrap this up and still we play.
Judd Trump 9-8 Barry Hawkins (67-43)
Terrific pot from Hawkins as he sends the green up the left hand cushion and into the top left corner pocket.
Judging by his face, he didn't really want to do that!
The gap now 24 and 22 left to play for as he continues to search for this snooker.
Judd Trump 9-8 Barry Hawkins (67-40)
That looked like being another for Hawkins there when dropping the cue ball behind the pink and black.
Trump gets out it and gets a tap on the table from Hawkins - that was a good shot to get out it once again.
He's back on the table again, Trump and a long green rattles the jaws and stays up - that would've been it I think!
27 points in it, 25 left to play for.
