Edoardo Bove latest updates: Fiorentina star ‘conscious’ after collapsing on pitch during Inter Milan clash

EDOARDO BOVE collapsed on the pitch in Fiorentina's clash against Inter Milan - but reports state that he is now conscious after being treated in hospital.

Players and staff formed a wall around the midfielder while medical staff tended to the 22-year-old.

Bove was then taken off by stretcher before being placed in an ambulance and taken to Careggi Hospital.

    Edoardo Bove is being treated in intensive care, with local reports saying he is now conscious and breathing on his own.

    Fiorentina's president, Rocco Commisso, said: "Forza Edoardo, we’re with you. You’re a strong boy with a great character. We’re reaching out to the boy's family during these moments."

    Commisso and Fiorentina thanked fans from around the world for their support.

    Fans are thankful to hear that Bove is now conscious.

    One fan wrote: "I'm so happy to hear that Edoardo Bove is alert, conscious, and breathing for himself after he collapsed today during the game v Inter."

    Another said: "Great news that Edoardo Bove is breathing and conscious. Life always comes before anything else."

  • Hospital arrivals

    Several stars showed up at the hospital in support of Bove.

    Among the first to arrive at the hospital was captain Cristiano Biraghi. He was joined by Martinez Quarta. Danilo Cataldi - one of the first players to help Bove when he collapsed on the pitch, also visited the hospital. 

    Rolando Mandragora, Pietro Terracciano, Luca Ranieri and Dodo were also seen at the hospital - with several other players making their way over to the medical facility to show their support.

    It is the second incident this year of a player collapsing during a Serie A match.

    This happened to Roma defender Evan Ndicka during his team's match at Udinese in April.

    The 24-year-old was taken away by medical staff in the 74th minute of the Serie A clash, before the match was abandoned.

    But he was thankfully in good spirits later on in the evening.

    Fiorentina have announced that Edoardo Bove is currently under pharmacological sedation and hospitalised intensive care

    A statement read: "Bove arrived in stable hemodynamic conditions and the first cardiological and neurological tests performed have ruled out acute damage to the central nervous.

    Bove will be re-evaluated in the next 24 hours. Thoughts and prayers with Edo 🤍

    Several supporters sent their well-wishes on social media

    One wrote: "I hope they can help him. Awful, awful news to read today. Still holding hope the doctors can heal him."

    "Thoughts with Bove, his family and @acffiorentina," wrote another. "We should suspend this match. The players were shaken. They are people too."

    Supporters of other clubs also shared messages of support after learning of the news. "Praying for Bove. Everyone deserves to go back home to their family."

    Bove was bending down and tying his laces before standing up and taking a few steps forward before he suddenly collapsed.

    At 18:48 local time fans started to leave the Stadio Artemio Franchi to go home.

    The game was then officially postponed to a later date with 17 minutes on the clock.

    Born in Rome, Edoardo Bove's paternal family is originally from Naples while his mother is German-Italian.

    Bove was raised in the quartiere of Appio-Latino and studied at the Massimo Institute in Rome's neighbourhood.

    The Italian midfielder started playing football in the Roman club of Boreale Donorione until 2012 when he joined Roma following a successful trial.

    He was called up by the first team on December 3 for a Europa League match against Young Boys in 2020.

    However, he made his professional debut for Roma on May 9 in 2021 - scoring his first senior goal in a 2-2 draw against Verona on February 2022.

    On August 30, 2024, Bove joined fellow Serie A club Fiorentina on a season-long loan with the option to make the move permanent.

    A statement from Inter Milan president, Beppe Marotta said: "The focus is on the health of a 22-year-old boy, we have absolutely not addressed the issue of when the match will be played.

    "We will think about it later, now the focus is only on Bove’s health."

    Italian outlet Repubblica reports Bove's illness was caused by an epileptic fit which led to a cardiac arrest on the pitch.

    A Serie A statement said: "The match will not resume and is postponed to a date to be determined.

    "With the game interrupted, Bove collapsed to the ground and the situation immediately appeared very serious.

    "An ambulance took the player away."

    He was joined by Fiorentina manager Raffaele Palladino at the hospital shortly after, before his father and the mayor of Florence, Sara Funaro, also arrived at the hospital to show their support.

    Former Manchester United star David de Gea, who joined Fiorentina earlier this season, released a statement on social media praying for Bove's health.

    He said: "God please," followed by a praying hands emoji.

    Italian tennis player Flavio Cobolli, who is said to be a good friend of Bove since his time at Roma posted a story on Instagram saying: "Come on my friend," followed by a heart emoji.

    TNT Sports commentator Adam Summerton said: "Thoughts with Edoardo Bove & all at Fiorentina."

    Former Roma team-mate Tammy Abraham said: "Praying for you brother."

    AS Roma said: "One of us, we are all with you."

    Inter Milan's Serie A clash with Fiorentina was suspended after Edoardo Bove collapsed on the pitch.

    The horrible scenes occurred in the 15th minute of the clash.

    Players and staff formed a wall around the midfielder while medical staff tended to the 22-year-old.

    Team-mates and rivals alike were seen crying and with their hands on their heads as the terrifying ordeal played out.

    Bove was then taken off by stretcher before being placed in an ambulance and taken to Careggi hospital.

    Referee Daniele Doveri later told players to leave the pitch, with the match suspended due to the medical emergency.
