Paddy’s Perfect Challenge LIVE RESULTS: Shaun Murphy settles huge debate after potting incredible 147 – latest updates

SOME of the world's best sports stars participated Paddy Power's Perfect Challenge - and the huge debate has been settled!

Darts icons Luke Humphries and Michael van Gerwen failed to hit a nine-darter.

While English pros Matt Wallace and Ross Fisher were unsuccessful in the hole-in-one challenge

But snooker star Shaun Murphy stole the show as he managed to pot an incredible 147.

  • Shaun finally admits it...

After so long cheekily insisting he was the master all-rounder, Shaun Murphy at last admitted what all serious sports fans knew.

Following the snooker, darts and golf challenge, the 147 star came clean.

He said: "What we have proved - the three of them are very difficult."

  • You've been ad!

Shaun Murphy warmed up for the challenge in a jokey Paddy Power ad boasting of his all-round awesomeness at sport.

He said: "They all seem pretty easy to me.

"As I've said before, it's a club of one, and that club is me. It's just what I do to be fair.

"I've done thousands of things that most people could only dream of.

";There was the 300 at 10-pin bowling. I also got six wickets in an over and a perfect 10 in gymnastics an hour later."

    But no cup final hat-trick???

  • How 'nine-doubter' Van Gerwen trolled Shaun

Here's how Michael van Gerwen had the last laugh on Shaun Murphy.

The English snooker ace approached the oche with the words: "What happens if I hit a 180 here?"

However, such concerns were promptly erased - as he totally missed the board with two of his darts.

Darts' three-time world champ MVG pounced as he asked: "'Where was it you hit the nine darter?'"

He added: "I would like to know this story."

Presenter Emma Paton, best known for her darts coverage on Sky Sports, stepped in with: "It was in his local club."

Murphy nodded to confirm this - but Van Gerwen joked: "Was it 301 or 101?"

That's obviously a cheeky reference to the fact a nine-darter relates only to a full leg up to 501.

  • MVG pokes fun at Murphy's flaw

Michael van Gerwen seems to think Shaun Murphy's boast that he's bagged a nine-darter is a load of bull.

That's the only conclusion from the way MVG gleefully tore the snooker star apart for his efforts at the oche.

Whatever anyone says, Murphy will end the day well in credit of course - after a 147 (and almost two!) in his 'proper' sport.

But Van Gerwen definitely won their verbal exchange at the oche...

  • Ally Pally excuse for Luke?

Darts icons Luke Humphries & Michael van Gerwen both failed to land a nine-darter.

But it's just possible their minds are more focused on the second half of the month... and not just for Christmas!

Cool Hand Luke will be defending his title when the World Championship starts at the Ally Pally n December 15.

Top seed Humphries enters the tournament at round two - against the winner of Thibault Tricole vs Joe Comito.

Meanwhile, third seed MVG will take on either James Hurrell or Jim Long.

  • Fans hail 'crazy' Murphy

Shaun Murphy's 'mixed' performance had fans of snooker and darts raving - for different reasons.

One posted: "Murphy saying he's hit a 9, then his dart almost takes out the refs eye.

"Although credit to him for the 147, and almost going back to back 147's is crazy. Although it does prove a 147, after a couple of years practice is pish easy and me gran could do it after 6 gins."

But another reckoned the set-up favoured snooker stars.

He wrote: "Unfair as with the 147 they're making it easier opening the pack for each other - in a game that wouldn't happen... whereas in the golf and darts it's all up themselves."

A third wrote: "9-darter is first, for an ordinary person hole in one is easier."

  • Humphries & Murphy argue

Luke Humphries and Shaun Murphy passionately debated the 147 vs nine-darter vs hole in one.

The darts world No1 said: "If you give someone a set of darts, a snooker cue and a gold club, I think they would do the hole in one first, nine-darter second and 147 last. That would be harder.

"But to a professional, snooker players know all the angles."

Murphy could be heard laughing and saying: "I didn't know you were a comedian. A 147 is harder than a nine-darter."

Humphries replied: "Did you hear what I said though? I said when you're a professional and you know all the angles, in my opinion, you make it look easy.

"In frames to legs of darts, you have more 147s than nine-darters."

Murphy said: "Well, that does not make it easier."

Humprhies responded: "I didn't say it was easier."

Van Gerwen then hilariously chimed in: ";I am liking this."

  • Recap

Snooker’s 147 was the only one we saw today. Murphy recovered after bottling it on the brown in his try before.

Darts’ nine-darter did not come close as Humphries and Van Gerwen left disappointed. MVG got six perfect darts but that was as close as we got.

The golfers were unlucky on their par three hole as Wallace saw one roll around the hole.

  • That moment

  • Switching sports

Murphy and Williams are having a go at the oche.

Humphries has gone over to the snooker table and are using Murphy's cue.

  • Time is up!

Wallace and Fisher both came very, very close. One even rolled over the hole. But no hole in one today.

  • Done all three?

Murphy claims he has landed a nine-darter and a hole in one before, as well as the 147, of course.

He says he was gifted a set of Phil Taylor darts after filming on A Question of Sport.

The snooker star says he went down the pub and got a nine-darter.

Murphy claims he used to play in the pub with friends a couple of times a week.

Van Gerwen is unsure and wants to judge his throw in person.

  • So is snooker the easiest?

Murphy said: "What we have proved, the three of them are all very difficult."

  • Murphy's thoughts

"We always talk about playing conditions. Brand new table, brand new gloves and balls.

"I was really honing in on the missed brown and did not want a repeat of it.

"I feel like I have won the world title. I put everything into those shots.

"We practice 147s and try to get them. I am buzzing and will be for the rest of day.

"Not having someone to play against makes it easier."

  • Murphy the champ

He admits to cracking under the pressure when he missed the brown on his last attempt.

But the ex-world champ keeps his cool that time and was right to say he "100 per cent" believed he was going to get a maximum break today.

  • MURPHY GETS A 147

    The 147 is done!

Murphy pots the brown and then the blue just about sneaks in.

The pink goes and a simple black is potted.

Delight for Murphy and the fireworks in the studio go off.

  • Reds cleared

    IT IS ON.

Murphy is now onto the colours and pots the yellow. He is on 122.

  • Incredible stuff

A wonderful shot from Murphy and he is up to 104 now.

All eyes again on the snooker table.

  • Time is ticking

We are running out of time - we are still waiting for a nine-darter, 147 and a hole in one.

  • Wait goes on...

Another load of balls are cleared from the green on the course.

Van Gerwen has landed six perfect darts - but that is as far as they have got on the oche.

  • Murphy misses!

Humphries and Van Gerwen stop and all eyes are on Murphy.

But he incredibly misses a simple brown. Devastating.

Murphy says: "I can't believe it."

    Just 25 minutes remaining...

  • In business

Here we go, Murphy clears all the reds and is on 113.

  • Strong effort

Wallace has really found his range.

He puts great fade on his tee shot and it is seemingly rolling in.

Only for it to not have enough on it.

A couple of shots later, it rolls near enough over the whole and there are loud gasps from everyone.

  • Williams close again

Not for the first time, it is Williams getting close than Murphy to the 147.

He is on a break of 88 and the balls are positioned nicely.

But a long red into the far corner bounces away after hitting the cushion.

    Williams collapses onto the table.

  • Agonising

Wow. Wallace's effort rolls back just past the hole. The closest we have seen today.

"We are going to keep going. We are going to get it", says Fisher.
