  • Big Brec

It was a huge night for Luca Brecel, who has not enjoyed a strong 2024.

The 2023 world champion looked more like his old self in a thrilling 4-3 win over Kyren Wilson.

Brecel said: "This is exactly what I need, to win these games against top players like Kyren.

"I have always been someone who can play well under pressure. Last time here I got to the final, I was really focused.

"This time it's the same, from the start I have been really up for it.

"Maybe if I was like that in every event it would be better for my career. But it's difficult to be that motivated all the time."

It was a disappointing night for World No. 1 Judd Trump, who crashed out against veteran Mark Williams.

In a rematch of their thrilling Saudi Arabia Masters final, the three-time world champ claimed revenge on Trump in a tense final frame.

Williams cleared the table to record a 4-3 win and set up a semi-final with Luca Brecel.

"Life doesn’t begin until 5 o’clock at night, I’m enjoying the Saudi way of living.

“I’ve enjoyed the last three tournaments, I’ve found a way to feel comfortable at the table which is great.

“There was certain stuff I wasn’t very good at, I had to tighten up on my safety. I’ve been working with Lee Walker who has pointed some stuff out to me and I can feel the difference.
