Ex-England goalkeeper Jack Butland rushed to hospital with ‘serious internal bleed’ just days after wife gave birth

The goalkeeper is 'devastated' to miss out on the Old Firm derby

FORMER England goalkeeper Jack Butland has been rushed to hospital with a significant internal bleed.

The 31-year-old, who became a dad for the fourth time just 11 days ago, was due to feature for Rangers in the Old Firm derby tomorrow.

But he will not be available due to a leg bleed.

A Gers statement read: “Rangers can confirm goalkeeper Jack Butland will miss tomorrow’s Old Firm match with Celtic.

“The goalkeeper suffered an internal bleed in his leg which required hospital treatment, but he has since been released and is recovering.

“Everyone at Rangers wishes Jack a speedy recovery.”

He spent the night under medical care before being discharged this morning.

Butland is understood to be devastated about missing out on the Celtic clash.

He took to Instagram this afternoon to give fans an update.

"I've suffered a significant bleed to my leg that needed hospital attention," Butland wrote.

Butland gave fans an update on Instagram

"Thankfully that's now under control and will lead to a full recovery hopefully sooner rather than later.

"Needless to say it's come at an awful time and I was fully focused on helping us as a club.

"The most important thing now is supporting the lads and focusing on getting fit again as soon as possible.

"Let's stick together and push on @RangersFC."

The former England international announced the birth of his fourth child on December 21.

He was named in the Rangers squad prior to the club's match against Dundee but withdrew after the warm-up to be with his wife.

Butland is currently in his second season with the Scottish side.

He joined as a free agent following the expiry of his Crystal Palace deal in July 2023.

Prior to that, the goalkeeper spent six months on loan at Manchester United but did not make a first team appearance.

Butland made his senior England debut in August 2012 at the age of 19 years and 158 days.

He went on to make nine appearances for the Three Lions before falling out of favour.
