Mainoo’s meteoric rise means the England star remains one of the club's lowest earners.

Yet the United chief insists Mainoo still needs plenty of polishing and said: "Kobbie has been improving a lot over the last few matches.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Man City set to win race for 18-year-old wonderkid

Man City are set to win their scrap for Sierra Leone centre-half Juma Bah this week — despite massive opposition.

City hope their sales pitch of signing the 18-year-old from Real Valladolid and loaning him out for the next 18 months still appeals to the player.

Bah stalled on the move when Inter Milan, Lens and Fenerbahce made contact.

But City have been in for the teenager in a big way for the longest time of all suitors.

Everton and Crystal Palace are still waiting for encouragement — but the lure of City may end the chase in the next couple of days.

The 6ft 5in defender has become a regular in LaLiga this season.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Bournemouth lead race for Doak

The Cherries hope to win the race for Liverpool’s flying Scottish winger Ben Doak — with one eye on losing Antoine Semenyo.

Bournemouth have moved ahead of Crystal Palace in the chase for 19-year-old Doak but may be willing to wait until the summer before signing him.

Liverpool would ask £30million for Doak, who has been tearing up the Championship on loan at Middlesbrough.

He was not in the matchday squad for Saturday’s 1-0 FA Cup defeat at home to Blackburn.

Palace are reluctant to meet the fee but Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola may go close — if Semenyo heads for a major move away.

The Ghana star, 25, is fancied by both Liverpool and Newcastle but valued at £50m.

That make a departure in the winter window a long shot.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Serie A giants battle Newcastle for Calvert-Lewin

Atalanta want to sign Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin for their title charge.

The Italian giants sent a representative to Merseyside to push for the move and attempt to sign him with a pre-contract arrangement.

Calvert-Lewin’s Goodison deal runs out at the end of this season.

So Atalanta could get him tied up for next term — but even sign him now if the Toffees play ball.

DCL, 27, has Newcastle waiting for him in the summer, when they plan to land him on a free transfer.

But Atalanta — second in Serie A — are an interesting option for Calvert-Lewin.

  • More on Jorginho

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta suggested earlier this month Arsenal are not looking to open contract negotiations with Jorginho until the summer.

The Gunners are currently six points behind leaders Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

Arteta said: "I don’t want to start to have these [contract] conversations now.

"I want to have these conversations much later because the focus has to be on what we have to do in the season.

"[Jorginho and out-of-contract Thomas Partey] can understand the intentions and then we can see what we can do.

"I am very, very happy with [Jorginho]. [He is] such a value in the squad.

"And I want to keep him as well with the right mind frame, because the most important part of the season is coming now."

With his contract running out in less than six months, Jorginho is now free to negotiate directly with other clubs.

  • Jorginho set for exit

Arsenal star Jorginho is reportedly a target for Brazilian side Palmeiras.

The Italian midfielder's contract at the Emirates is due to expire at the end of the season.

Jorginho joined Arsenal - who take on Man Utd in a huge FA Cup clash today - in a £12m cross-London move from Chelsea in January 2023.

The 33-year-old has featured mainly as a substitute this season, appearing in just 10 games.

According to  Jorginho's representatives have held "preliminary" talks with Palmeiras.

The Brazilian side - based in Sao Paulo - are interested in bringing Jorginho back to the land of his birth.

  • More on Kvaratskhelia

Khavaratskhelia’s last appearance for Napoli came in the 1-0 win over Venezia in late December.

He failed to even make the squad for last weekend’s 3-0 victory at Fiorentina.

And he is set to miss out again when Napoli host Verona this evening.

The Italians are eager to reclaim their Serie A crown after losing it to Inter Milan last term

Napoli are currently top of the table on 44 points, two ahead of Atalanta and four ahead of Inter — who still have two games in hand.

  • Kvaratskhelia asks to leave

PSG and Chelsea target Khvicha Kvaratskhelia “has asked to leave” Napoli, according to boss Antonio Conte.

The Georgian winger, 23, is one of the most sought-after forwards in football after a fine spell in southern Italy.

And a January exit now looks inevitable after Napoli boss Conte confirmed Khvaratskhelia has now formally requested an exit.

Former Chelsea and Spurs gaffer Conte said: “Kvaratskhelia has asked to leave the club.

“I spoke to him and he confirmed his plan to leave the club immediately.”
