LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN

Championship League snooker LIVE RESULTS: Bingham, Jones, O’Connor, and Selt all make it to Group Five

CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE snooker is well underway with some huge names featuring.

Stuart Bingham and Mark Selby have reached Group 5 for when the tournament reconvenes on January 20.

Earlier in the week, Ronnie O'Sullivan lost to Robert Milkins and decided to withdraw from the event following the defeat.

The Championship League is a non-ranking event and has a small prize pot but players see it as the perfect warm-up after the Christmas break.

  • Selby and Jones lead Group 4

Mark Selby has an instant chance to make up for his Group Three misfortune in the next group today and tomorrow

G3's losing finalist Jak Jones is also in action, as is ex-world champ Stuart Bingham.

Also in Group 4 are Joe O'Connor, Jackson Page, Matthew Selt and Jimmy Robertson.

First up is Welshman Page against English ace Robertson and Bingham meeting Selt.

Then comes two noon contests - with Jones taking on O'Connor and Selt promptly playing his second game, against Selby.

  • Rocket fumes after loss - but prepares for Higgo

Reigning champ Ronnie O’Sullivan meets John Higgins – a fellow Class of ‘92 graduate – in the Masters first round on Sunday afternoon over the best of 11 frames, writes ROB MAUL.

Yet he is not in great form and on Wednesday, he lost three out of four matches on his first appearance in this season’s Championship League Snooker.

On Thursday, he whacked the table with his cue in anger after losing 3-2 to Robert Milkins and then withdrew in disgust before facing Carter in a final group match.

It was reported that he threw his cue into the bin as his worries on the table continue.

  • Rocket running out of steam?

John Higgins believes the Class of ’92 like Ronnie O’Sullivan and Mark Williams will fade out of the elite.

Fellow ex-world champ Higgo is the third of these 49-year-old legends – so it appears the Scottish legend is including himself in that assessment.

He said: “I think in the next ten years the Class of ’92 will be past it, but I’m sure the other boys will be competing, and new rivalries will be made.

“I think guys like Selby and Robertson and Murphy in the band behind me age wise they get easily overlooked.

“I don’t mean that in a derogatory way. People think the Class of ’92 and then guys like Judd and Kyren.

“You’ve got three guys there who are among the best to ever pick up a cue and I know because I’ve played them at their best. They’re incredible.”

  • Wilson repeats Crucible glory

Kyren Wilson's 3-2 comeback win over Jak Jones in Thursday's Group Three final repeated his 18-14 triumph over the same player in last year's World Championship finale.

And it confirms Wilson is bang in form ahead of the Masters, starting this weekend.

Having already won two titles this season, he's now into the Championship League Winner's Group next month.

Hossein Vafaei and Si Jiahui are already there, with four more to come.

Mark Selby's five straight wins to top the group ahead of Wilson meant nothing as Jones KO'd him 3-1 in yesterday's semi-final.

Wilson then saw off the Welshman to complete his memorable day.

  • Today's schedule - with Page opener

    12.30pm - J Jones vs O'Connor, Selby vs Selt

    1pm - Bingham vs Page, J Robertson vs O'Connor.

    5.30pm - Bingham vs J Robertson, Selby vs O'Connor

    6.30pm - J Jones vs Selt, Page vs O'Connor

  • I couldn't give a hooter - but row is over now

Asked if he could laugh about his snot-sniping row with Ali Carter, the Rocket replied: “Yeah. It’s just heat of the moment stuff. If I feel like I’ve got to say something I’ll say it.

“It’s nothing personal, just heat of the moment stuff. He’s entitled to say what he’s got to say, like I am.

“Do I regret saying it? Probably. I wish I’d kept my mouth shut and been a bit more polished with my answers, a bit more diplomatic.

“But I’ve said what I’ve said and that’s fine. It’s only words innit?

“He goes back to his life, his family and I do. We only have to meet on the table, it’s not like we’re best mates but it’s fine, we’re both pretty grown up.”

  • I felt he was snout of order

Following Ali Carter's snot rant, Ronnie O'Sullivan hit back with a furious X-rated rant, stuck up his middle finger in protest and stormed out of his press conference with family and friends trailing behind, writes ROB MAUL.

The seven-time world champion said: “He can sit on it as far as I’m concerned. I don’t give a f***.

“F***ing why has he got issues with me? I’m not having it. I don’t care, grow some balls. I don’t give a f***.

“The more he brings it on, the more I f***ing punish him every time. Absolutely. He’s just digging a grave for himself. He needs to sort his f***ing life out.”

A year on, and in preparation for his Masters defence this weekend, O’Sullivan was asked for his reflections of that episode, especially as they have met across the table since then.

  • Ronnie admits it's just snot right

Ronnie O'Sullivan has some regrets over his part in last year’s Snotgate row with Ali Carter, admitting: Maybe I should have been more diplomatic, writes ROB MAUL.

The Rocket, 49, won a record-extending eighth Masters crown in January 2024 following a 10-7 victory over Carter, 45, in the final.

An explosive war of words occurred in the respective post-match press conferences, which was broken by SunSport the next day.

Carter alleged O’Sullivan cleared his nose – like a long-distance runner might do – on to the carpet while sitting in his chair during the final frames.

The Captain claimed the sport’s greatest player was “snotting all over the floor” and labelled it as “outrageous behaviour from a top professional”.

  • Final latest – Wilson wraps up victory

Wilson has sealed a deserved 3-2 comeback win over Jones.

Having notched a 50 break to lead 69-28, he returned to pot one more red and take him out of reach.

And it meant Wilson had won two frames in a row for a solid victory.

  • Final latest – Jones ton puts him in front

Jones pouched a 115 break to win the third frame 124-8.

But Wilson has racked up a 40-plus table visit as he romps away early in a fourth frame he must win to take this final all the way.

Kyren Wilson 1-2 Jak Jones (48-0)

  • Final latest - Jones building well in third frame

Jones pouched a pink to go into the 20s with a useful break.

And a black took his table visit past 30 - with a lead beyond that margin.

Kyren Wilson 1-1 Jak Jones (8-49)

  • Final latest

Kyren Wilson 1-1 Jak Jones (8-9)

  • Final latest – Jak all square

Jones bowed out on the black - but he'd done more than enough to put the final all square.

Kyren Wilson 1-1 Jak Jones (0-0)

  • Final latest – Jones set to level

Jones is finally into the red-and-black combos as he passes 50 with this table visit.

That's four blacks in succession he's potted now.

But he had to switch to yellow as his break went beyond 70.

So he looks certain to level the final at 1-1.

Kyren Wilson 1-0 Jak Jones (10-81)

  • Final latest – Jones edges in front in second frame

Jones is at the table, hoping to develop a frame-defining break.

But he's with the low-scoring colours at the moment - having potted a brown then yellow so far.

Kyren Wilson 1-0 Jak Jones (10-23)

  • Final latest – Kyren takes opener

Wilson looked comfortable enough in taking the first frame 73-14, mainly thanks to a 54 break.

So he needs just a couple more frames to end up the winner from this week's Championship League action.

Kyren Wilson 1-0 Jak Jones (6-0)

  • Final latest - Wilson striding clear in first frame

Wilson is building nicely this time - with a tidy break into the 40s.

Kyren Wilson 0-0 Jak Jones (50-14)

  • Final under way!

Wilson is in early as he bids to stamp his mark on this evening’s final.

But it's a cagey start so far.

Kyren Wilson 0-0 Jak Jones (11-14)

  • Final under way!

Wilson is in early as he bids to stamp his mark on this evening's final.

And he's just used the red to pot a tricky red and get onto the blue.

The reds are loosely packed - and the blue gently opens them further up.

Kyren Wilson 0-0 Jak Jones (16-0)
