Jimmy Quinn, 65, told a thrilled fan about his life

Quinn enjoyed a successful football club career, scoring 210 goals in the Football League, and has enjoyed success as a manager, including winning promotion to the Football League with Shrewsbury Town in 2004 and taking Reading to the brink of the Premier League in 1995.

He was capped 46 times for his country and is one of Northern Ireland's top goalscorers, scoring 12 goals at senior level.

The fan relayed he special moment to The Sun: “I remember it was a nice summer’s day and a guy came to pick up four or five cars at once - I looked at him and said ‘I’ve seen your face before mate.’"

To which Quinn replied: “‘Really?’”

Having seen Quinn play for West Ham, the pair reminisced about Quinn's career and what brought him to cars.

Quinn admitted to the fan that he'd fallen on "hard times" but appeared very "content" with life now - despite his salary being considerably less.

Although the fan works locally, he has only seen Quinn once more since the meet.

But others have taken to footie forums to share their fleeting encounters with the star.

One fan posted to The Oatcake Stoke City Fanzine Messageboard on November 30, 2023, to say he'd asked a bloke who was dropping off a car at work whether he was "living the dream".

To which the man replied: "Not anymore mate but I used to be a professional footballer".

After some quizzing, the fan realised it really was the famous Jimmy Quinn standing before him.

The colleague said: "He went on to say if he could fast forward 30 years, he would be a millionaire now.
