UFC middleweight Roman Kopylov suffered a horror cut in the promotion's first show of the year.

MMA's premier promotion returned to action early on Sunday morning with a stellar Fight Night card from its Apex Facility in Las Vegas.

Kopylov's 185lbs showdown with Chris Curtis was among the pick of the fights.

The Russian secured victory with a buzzer-beater TKO in the third round, although he didn't come out of the bout unscathed.

Kopylov was left with a massive cut above his right eyebrow that was worthy of a Hollywood horror movie.

UFC medics treated the 33-year-old backstage, closing his wound with the help of ten stitches.

UFC President and CEO Dana White shared the gruesome before and after of Kopylov's treatment with his near 10 million Instagram followers via his story.

His accompanying captions read: "Tonight's card was INCREDIBLE!! Respect to the entire card."

Kopylov closed the show with a wicked head kick in the dying embers of the fight.

Xtreme Couture's Curtis was badly hurt and fell to the canvas, which he tried to make his way up from.
