With the form well and truly franked, Nicholls wants to keep Kandoo Kid's mark protected before the big one on Saturday, April 5.
The ambassador said: "He's in great shape. I'm not definitely going to run him before the National weights come out and risk getting any more.
"He keeps going up without running because everything behind him is winning.
"He's 152 now and I want to keep him there - he is brilliant fresh and has been round Aintree.
"If we think he needs a run I might look at a 2m4f race at Newbury in early March.
