SAM ALLARDYCE has revealed which job would tempt him back to football: A return to Bolton.

The legendary manager, 70, hasn't set foot in the dugout since short stint at Leeds in the 2022-23 season, which saw them relegated from the Premier League.

Allardyce managed England for one game, as well as stints at West Brom, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Blackburn, West Ham, Everton and Sunderland to name a few.

But his most-successful spell came in charge of Bolton.

During his seven-and-a-half-year stay, Big Sam guided the Trotters to their first-ever European campaign as they finished in the top eight in the Premier League for four consecutive seasons.

But now Allardyce has revealed he would be tempted to return to the club - currently tenth in League One - but not as boss.

When asked if he'd head back to Bolton, Big Sam told the  No Tippy Tappy Football podcast: “In some capacity yes, but as a manager no.

“I would never even consider being a threat to the manager at the time.

“The manager will have had enough time sat in the office looking out and wondering who's threatening you, who's on your side, and who's not.

“I've had enough of that in my entire 20-odd years as manager.

"The last thing I'd want to do is put that manager under that much pressure from me.

"But in some capacity, yes I’d return to Bolton.”

Sam Allardyce offers to 'fly back from Dubai tomorrow' to replace Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea manager

Allardyce went on to say returning managers rarely enjoy much, if any, success.

Speaking about David Moyes' return to Everton, he said: "Well, it worked for Jose [Mourinho] when he went back to Chelsea, but I can't remember anybody else who has gone back and done well.

“For David Moyes at Everton, this is a brand new relationship with the owners so he's got to find the feel for them, which is the most important thing if he's going to be successful.

“What they're going to bring to the table to help him deliver an Everton team that's going to rise up the league.

"There'll be a certain amount of no patience if the money's talked about.”
