As players pay tribute to Seve Ballesteros, late legend’s son says he is ‘sure he’s pushing for Sergio Garcia to win The Masters’
Nick Faldo, Gary Player and Danny Willett among stars remembering ex-Augusta champ on what would have been 60th birthday
AS players paid tribute to Seve Ballesteros, the late legend's son said he is "sure he's pushing for Sergio Garcia to win the Masters".
Today would have been the Spanish icon's 60th birthday.
He died in May 2011 after a long battle with cancer.
Ballesteros was the first European to win the Masters in 1980 and repeated the feat in 1983.
His two green jackets were added to three Open victories and a haul of five Majors in all.
Now, with protege Garcia on the brink of his first Major in his career, Seve's son Javier says his dad is with joint-leader all the way.
Javier uploaded a photo of himself with his dad and captioned it: "Happy 60th birthday dad! Miss you every day! I'm sure you'll be pushing for Sergio today!"
Other greats of the game paid tribute to one of golf's most charismatic characters.
Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn wrote: "Today one of my heroes would have been 60.
"I hope he's up there having a toast with Arnie and watching the drama unfold today! We miss you Seve."
Gary Player posted of himself hugging Seve.
He wrote: "Here at my 60th Masters, I celebrate the life and friendship of my dear friend Seve on his 60th birthday. Gone but never forgotten."
Defending Masters champ Danny Willett, who missed the cut this week at Augusta, posted: "60 today. It's not Masters Sunday without this guy. Legend!"
