  • Townend sure Galopin will bounce back

Paul Townend has no doubt Galopin Des Champs's shock Gold Cup loss is far from the end for him.

And the jockey agreed with Willie Mullins that the Treble-seeking favourite was "just not happy".

Townend said: "He tried his heart out and he's home in one piece. He'll go again.

"He was just not happy, everything was a bit of an effort.

"He still gave it a crack and gave them something to shout about for a long way.

"A couple of jumps back up to the top of the hill, I was hoping rather than feeling confident that he was going to come alive for me there, to be honest.

  • Oasis beats Spice Girls

A throwback to pop culture fans as Oasis-inspired Wonderwall beat Geri Halliwell-Horner's debut horse.

The Ginger Spice looked excited at the start of the race but her horse Lift Me Up - named after her No.1 single from 1999 - was quickly down to 13th place.

Meanwhile, Wonderwall - named after Oasis hit song - has edged Its On The Line to win the Hunters Chase.

The feud between Spice Girls and Oasis began when Liam Gallagher told press the reason he wasn't attending the Brits was because if he ran into the Spice Girls he would smack them.

When the girl band won British Single of the year, Sporty Spice snapped back, saying: "I just want to say, Liam, come and have a go if you think you're hard enough!"

  • Grand National Next?

After an unexpected and epic victory last night, Inothewayurthinkin has become the favourite for the Grand National at Aintree on April 5.

But owner JP McManus has to consult with trainer Gavin Cromwell before deciding if the Gold Cup winner should compete.

Cromwell said: “I don’t know about the Grand National but we’ll get him home and have a chat. There’s a potential it will happen.”

  • Prestbury Cup final standings

Cheltenham Festival has concluded for another year, which means the winner of the Prestbury Cup has been decided.

The Craft Irish Whiskey Prestbury Cup begins with the opening race on Day One of the four-day event and continues until there are 14 or more winners from either nation.

This year, Ireland cruised to victory in the end, with the final score ending 20-8 against Great Britain.

The winning nation will be bringing a little bit of Cheltenham with them, since the Cup itself has been sealed with some sacred Cheltenham turf.

  • 'Treasure these moments,' says McManus

Inothewayurthinkin owner JP McManus is determined to “treasure” Gold Cup glory.

The 15/2 shot showed an impressive surge of pace to overhaul 8/13 favourite Galopin Des Champs and the leaders to win by six lengths.

McManus said: “You have to enjoy these moments, they are so long in the making.

“We’ve had him since he was a foal, he was bred by (wife) Noreen. It’s a very exciting time and I will treasure it.

“I would like to see it again, I don’t think I took it all in, but it’s an exciting day.”

  • The biggest-priced winner

Brighton owner Tony Bloom landed one of the biggest Cheltenham shocks ever when 100-1 Poniros stormed to victory in the Triumph Hurdle.

Former Flat horse Poniros cost around £200,000 and, incredibly, was making his debut for master trainer Willie Mullins.

It looked like market leaders Lulamba and East India Dock were going to fight it out up the hill of the 2m1f Grade 1 for four-year-old horses.

But Poniros - who had NEVER jumped a hurdle in public - just kept finding and finding and finding to spring the mother of all shocks and become the biggest-priced winner ever of the prestigious race.

He is the biggest price winner of a race at the Festival since Norton's Coin in 1990, some 35 years ago.

Bloom bagged a tidy cheque for £84,405 with the win.

  • How much did the Gold Cup winner take home?

The Gold Cup chase is the biggest race at Cheltenham, despite beginning as a supporting race for the Country Hurdle.

Cheltenham has been the site of the competition since 1861, though it has occasionally been held in other locations.

The owner of the winning horse takes home a staggering £363,999.

    Second place receives £137,138, third £68,633, fourth £34,284, fifth £17,207, sixth £86,03, seventh £42,69 and eighth £21,999.

  • What do we know about Galopin Des Champs?

Galopin Des Champs was denied Gold Cup victory in a shocking twist when he was beaten by Inothewayurthinkin.

But Galopin is one of the most successful racers in recent years and all bets were on him.

He is a thoroughbred race who was bred in France under the pen name G A E C Des Champs.

He won the 2023 and 2024 Cheltenham Gold Cup and the 2023, 2024 and 2025 Irish Gold Cup.

  • Smallest crowd in history

Cheltenham saw the smallest crowd since 1993 with 41,949 spectators on the track on Wednesday.

Tuesday proved quiet as well with 55,498 people in attendance.

Regulars skipped out on going to Cheltenham this year due to the rising cost of accommodation.

Thousands opted to watch the action from the sunny destinations like Benidorm instead.

  • Vet kicked

Gold Cup winner Inothewayurthinkin kicked out at a vet in terrifying scenes following his stunning Cheltenham triumph.

After the race, JP McManus' victorious horse was seen to by veterinary staff.

With Walsh still aboard, a vet checking on Inothewayurthinkin's back legs was sent flying by a brutal kick.

The vet thankfully did not appear to be seriously hurt.

  • Gear up for next year

Cheltenham Festival 2025 has come to an epic end.

And there's a good chance you might want to forget this year's races altogether.

Bookies had a right laugh with so many odds-on shots getting turned over.

But there are always clues to be found and some horses just make bags of appeal for 12 months' time.

Read all the tips to bag the ultimate value - and you can bet on races for next year's meeting now.

  • Gold then Grand?

Gold Cup winner Inothewayurthinkin could complete a spectacular double in less than a month.

His odds for the Grand National on April 45 have ben cut to around 5/2.

Inothewayurthinkin is owned by billionaire racing supremo JP McManus and trained by Irish handler Gavin Cromwell.

Gold Cup-Winning jockey Mark Walsh said: "I'm dancing inside. I can't believe it.

"They went a nice gallop and they jumped well as a whole.

"In fairness to this fella, he's done some growing up in the last year and Gavin Cromwell's a genius in the way he's trained him."

But Cromwell confirmed there will be discussions before Inothewayurthinkin is confirmed to run at the National.

  • Thinkin the right way

Superstar horse and huge odds-on favourite Galopin Des Champs was stunned in his bid for a third Gold Cup by unlikely challenger Inothewayurthinkin, writes SAM MORGAN.

Willie Mullins' awesome chaser was almost taken out when Ahoy Senor fell but looked to be travelling brilliantly rounding the bend.

Yet Inothewayurthinkin, who wasn't originally in the race and had to be supplemented at a cost of £25,000, kept creeping closer and closer.

He pinged the last with Galopin Des Champs on his last legs and stormed home up the hill to secure yet another result for the bookies and win at 15-2.

Galopin Des Champs clung on for second at 8-13 while Gentlemansgame was third at 40-1.

Mullins had already won the first four races on the day and his two-time Gold Cup winner was considered the banker of the week by almost everyone.

But he endured a tough passage through and almost got wiped out when Derek Fox came down on Ahoy Senor.

Despite a few unusually slow jumps he was still on the bridle and looked to have the race at his mercy with two to jump.

Yet the petrol tank was about to go out at this stage just as Inothewayurthinkin was cruising into top gear.

The Grand National favourite absolutely flew up the hill - suggesting the Aintree race in three weeks' time is his for the taking.

  • Corbetts Cross suffers fatal injury in Gold Cup

Owner JP McManus' joy at Inothewayurthinkin winning the Gold Cup was tempered by tragedy for his other horse in the race.

It was confirmed afterwards that Corbetts Cross suffered a fatal injury during the race.

A Cheltenham statement read: "In our fifth race of the day, Corbett’s Cross was immediately attended to by our veterinary professionals, but sadly sustained a fatal injury.

"Our heartfelt condolences are with his connections."

  • Thinkin ahead to the National...

Gold Cup winner Inothewayurthinkin has been cut to 3/1 to win next month's Grand National.

His victory over 8/13 favourite Galopin Des Champs in the Festival's top race was a triumph for bookies.

But William Hill spokesman Lee Phelps said of his National hopes: "He’s already been well-backed for that race and could be a very expensive National winner.

"So punters may yet have their revenge."

  • Bookies happy after 'rollercoaster'

Galopin Des Champs' surprise Gold Cup failure peaked a profitable week for bookies.

William Hill spokesman Lee Phelps said: “The 2025 Cheltenham Festival has been a rollercoaster four days in the battle between punters and bookies.

"But enough of the week’s hotpots failed to deliver and we’ve ended up comfortably in front.

"There have been bad results but we’ve managed to get a load of big favourites beaten.

“At the start of the week it would have been a dream to suggest we would get all four short-priced favourites beaten in the Championship races.

"Other than a four-race Willie Mullins blitz today (Thursday), punters never really got a sustained run of results, meaning we ended the four days well ahead.”

  • Des-perately bad luck

Galopin Des Champs' Gold Cup defeat was a big enough shock in itself.

But spare a thought for the poor punter who splashed £50,000 on the heavy favourite only to see it go up in flames.

  • Cromwell 'speechless' with joy

Trainer Gavin Cromwell was in shock over Inothewayurthinkin's Gold Cup triumph.

He told Racing TV: "I'm absolutely speechless,

"We've had a lot of faith in this horse. Credit has to go to Keith Donoghue with this horse, he's been a part of him all the way.

"He's done all the schooling and ridden him all the way along. I'm just thrilled.

"I was worried about the pace of the race on the better ground, he was only just hanging in there the whole time - he was flat out.

"He's a very good horse. Going down to the second last I thought we had a good chance, what can you say? It's brilliant, I'm just thrilled."

Cromwell also hailed Inothewayurthinkin's owners for their bold backing.

He said: "Great thanks to JP and Noreen (McManus) for having the confidence to supplement him.

"It's brilliant, they're so good to train for. They're brilliant people."

  • Winning jockey 'can't believe' Gold Cup joy

Inothewayurthinkin made an even bigger name for himself by denying Galopin Des Champs a Cheltenham Gold Cup hat-trick.

And after he kicked away to win in some style, jockey Mark Walsh “danced inside” with joy.

Walsh said: “It’s brilliant. I can’t believe it.

“Went at a nice gallop, he jumped well on the whole.

“Paul [Townend on Galopin Des Champs] was on my outside and early on he was missing a few fences.

“I just thought that Paul wasn’t that happy, so I was happy to see that.

“But in fairness to this fella, he’s done some growing up in the last year. Gavin Cromwell is a genius the way he trains him, to have him spot on for today.”

And a final word on his feelings? “I’m dancing inside.”

  • JP mulls Gold Cup winner running in National

Owner JP McManus will consult with trainer Gavin Cromwell before deciding if Gold Cup winner Inothewayurthinkin should compete in the Grand National at Aintree on April 5.

McManus said: "We have to be fair to the horse. The Gold Cup is a tough race.

"I’ll see what Gavin says but don’t expect a decision in the next week."

On today's triumph, Cromwell added: "Galopin Des Champs was a dual Gold Cup winner, but we were coming here to try and win the race.

"We weren’t coming to pick up the pieces and get place money."

Of the National, he added: "I think we’ll all catch our breath and get the horse home, and we’ll be having the conversation later on, but I suppose you certainly can’t rule it out and it is tempting. It’s certainly something to think about."

  • Gold Cup winner sends vet flying with KICK

Gold Cup winner Inothewayurthinkin kicked out at a vet following his Cheltenham triumph.
