This is the first day of Ayr's blockbuster two-day Scottish Grand National meeting - their biggest festival of the year.

It is believed, but has not been confirmed, that an ambulance rushed to the scene where the poorly person was taken away from the track.

Racing TV presenter Gordon Brown said: "There's going to be no more than a short delay, we hope, due to a medical emergency in the grandstand.

"The paramedics are currently attending to someone. Let's hope we get a positive outcome.

"It has been dealt with very quickly but we know no more than that.

"But due to that medical emergency there will be a slight delay to our second race of the day."

While presenter in the studio Tom Stanley added: "We hope the individual subject to that medical emergency recovers and is OK.

"It's obviously pretty serious at the moment given that delay.

"The individual is receiving the best care and attention there. Fingers crossed it all works out."

A first BHA statement read: "There will be a short delay to the start of R2 @ayrracecourse. Further updates to follow."

While a follow-up post on X published at 2.22pm, 17 minutes after the race was due off, read: "There will be an extension to the delay of Race 2@ayrracecourse due to a medical emergency. Further updates will continue to follow."

Due to rules around available ambulances on the track, racing cannot continue if one is being used elsewhere.

The second race, a 2m hurdle contest, was eventually off at 2.33pm.

A massive crowd is expected at Ayr over the next two days, with superstar trainer Willie Mullins sending over a whole load of top-class talent.

The legendary Irish handler is gunning for the British jumps trainer title - his second in a row.

He dominates the market for Saturday's Scottish Grand National, which will be shown live on ITV1 and comes just a week after an unforgettable Aintree renewal.
