Alan Pardew rules out taking over at Sunderland because he spent four years at Newcastle
Ex-Crystal Palace boss has been without work since getting sacked last December
ALAN PARDEW has ruled out taking over at Sunderland.
The Black Cats are searching for a new manager after David Moyes quit the club following their relegation to the Championship.
And the former Crystal Palace boss, who was sacked last December, says his relationship with Newcastle means he couldn't take over at the Stadium of Light.
Pardew spent four years managing Sunderland's arch rivals in 2010.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "Being the opposite of Newcastle, I don't think that's the club for me.
"Sometimes when you have been a manager at a big club like that, to go to a rival is something I wouldn't do so that wouldn't interest me, but it is a great club and next year they really need to make sure they get back to the Premier League where they belong."
The 55-year-old was linked with the vacant job at Watford before Marco Silva edges closer to taking over at Vicarage Road.

And Pardew admits he next job will be decided on the project at hand.
He added: "It will be for me about the project.
"If I think the project is going to be a chance of promotion, a good finish in the Premier League or a cup run then I will be interested."
"Us managers we wait by the phone and see what happens."
