Crystal Palace make contact with ex-Liverpool No2 Mauricio Pellegrino in hunt for Sam Allardyce replacement
Argentinian — a good friend of Tottenham chief Mauricio Pochettino — resigned from the Alaves hotseat on Monday
CRYSTAL PALACE have contacted ex-Liverpool No 2 Mauricio Pellegrino about replacing Sam Allardyce.
The Argentinian — a good friend of Tottenham chief Mauricio Pochettino — resigned from the Alaves hotseat on Monday.
He had guided the newly-promoted side to an impressive ninth in La Liga and a Spanish Cup final.
Allardyce stepped down as Palace boss last week, just five months after he joined the Selhurst Park club.
And Spain sources say the Eagles have approached Pellegrino, 45, having been alerted by the fact has expressed his desire to manage in England. Leicester have also sounded out the manager.
Pellegrino — who was assistant to Rafa Benitez at both Liverpool and Inter Milan — has been heralded in Spain this season after no one gave Alaves a chance of staying in La Liga.
He told SunSport: “What we achieved at Alaves was incredible but now it’s time for a new challenge.
“I would love to manage in England. The Premier League is the most exciting in the world.
“I loved my two seasons as a coach at Liverpool and playing for them for half a season, too.
“Mauricio did a great job by going to England with Southampton and he has done unbelievably well with Tottenham.
“He has hopefully given Argentine managers a good reputation!”
Sevilla have also sounded out Pellegrino after sporting director Monchi announced he was stepping down.
