Middlesbrough set to appoint Garry Monk and James Beattie to guide club back to Premier League

MIDDLESBROUGH have lined up Garry Monk and James Beattie to guide the Teesiders back to the Premier League.

Recently relegated Boro are believed to be close to appointing a new manager after deciding against keeping Steve Agnew at the helm.

And the Championship side have reportedly 'agreed' a deal for the former Leeds duo to take over at the Riverside in the next few days according to Radio Yorkshire journalist Derek Clark.

He wrote on Twitter: "I'm led to believe Garry Monk & James Beattie have agreed to take over at Middlesbrough & should be announced in next few days."

Monk shocked Leeds when he resigned from his post in May after failing to reach an agreement over a new deal with the club's hierarchy.

The former Swansea boss guided the Whites to seventh in his first season in charge before walking away from the club.

And he looks set to ditch former Leeds assistant Pep Clotet in favour of having Beattie as his trusted number two.

Beattie worked amongst Monk's backroom staff at Leeds and the duo will be given the task of guiding the club back to the top flight of English football.

Meanwhile Clotet is expected to take the vacant Leeds United job.
