Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Wladimir Klitschko could take place in Nigeria, says Eddie Hearn
World champion has always embraced heritage and is open to idea of fighting in Africa
ANTHONY JOSHUA’S big money rematch with Wladimir Klitschko could take place in Nigeria, according to Eddie Hearn.
AJ’s promoter said the African country is “one of the frontrunners” to host the eagerly anticipated showdown.
Joshua lived in Nigeria for a brief time when he was a child before moving to the UK when he failed to be picked for them at the 2008 Olympics.

Hearn told iFL TV: “I think Nigeria is probably one of the frontrunners.
“People have this perception that Nigeria is a place that makes fire by rubbing twigs together.
“It’s a very powerful economy with a huge middle-class sector and actually it’s a country that has a number of major events already – particularly pop music concerts.”
Joshua hinted earlier this year that he would be up for fighting in the country he spent some times a kid.
He said: “When you are in sport you become a representation of people.”
Joshua said he has Nigeria tattooed on his arm and this is what he believes makes the people relate to him.
He said: “I’ve got it [an outline of Nigeria] tattooed on my arm, so people can relate to me. I don’t know if [a fight there] will happen.” Joshua said.
Hearn said he is up for the challenge in setting the Klitschko rematch in Nigeria, a country that is yet to host a fight of such stature.
The promoter added: “The infrastructure is there. Obviously it’s difficult for us because there’s never been a major fight before – but that’s challenging. I like that.”
