GEORGE BOYD will swap the Premier League for the Championship and sign for Sheffield Wednesday.

The midfielder is set to undergo a medical at Carlos Carvalhal's side on Monday as they look to mount a Premier League charge.

Boyd's contract at Turf Moor expired this summer and he rejected the chance to pen a one-year extension in the hope of a longer deal.

Steve Bruce's Aston Villa were also in for his signature but the 31-year-old will opt to join Sheffield Wednesday.

Boyd made 36 appearances for Burnley last season and has been a regular for Sean Dyche since leaving Hull City for £3million in 2014.

Wednesday reached the playoff semi-finals last season before being knocked out to Huddersfield on penalties.

And Carvalhal believes one or two additions will be enough to go one step further and return to the top flight for the first time in 17 years.

The Owls have already signed former Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes on a permanent deal.

Meanwhile Burnley face the prospect of losing star centre-back Michael Keane to Everton in a £25million deal.

The 24-year-old will undergo a medical at Goodison Park on Monday ahead of a potential move.

The England defender, called by Gareth Southgate against Germany in March, is determined to win a place at the World Cup next summer.
