And SunSport understands Vatuvei is set to see out the remainder of this season with Ian Watson’s men.

Salford are thought to have turned to Vatuvei after Shaun Kenny-Dowall opted to move to NRL side Newcastle Knights.

After 14 years with New Zealand Warriors, the Kiwi international, who has played 28 Tests for his country, is set to leave.

The 31-year-old has seen just 53 minutes of NRL action this year after seeing his spot taken by the likes of Ken Maumalo, David Fusitu’a and Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad.

Salford Red Devils are enjoying a great season

Vatuvei, who was named the International Winger of the year in 2008 after New Zealand’s Rugby League World Cup triumph, has played 226 games for the Warriors since making his debut in 2004.

But the association is set to come to an end as he looks for a fresh challenge.

Nothing has yet been confirmed but it is understood Vatuvei, who may play for Tonga at this year’s World Cup, will be over sooner rather than later.

A Warriors spokesman said: “We’re aware Manu is weighing up his options but nothing has been confirmed.”
