Dani Alves confirms Neymar told him to snub Man City move for PSG… before former Barcelona striker completed his own mega £198m switch
Right-back reveals that he was convinced by his former Barcelona team-mate to move to Ligue 1 instead of Prem
DANI ALVES has revealed that his pal Neymar convinced him to snub Manchester City to join Paris Saint-Germain.
The Brazilian pair have both signed for the Ligue 1 giants this summer - with Neymar completing his £198million move last week.
But former Juventus full-back Alves, 34, had been close to a move to City - before his compatriot stepped in.
After helping PSG to a 2-0 win over Amiens on Saturday, Alves revealed: "I talked to him about the possibility [that Neymar would join PSG].
"He recommended me to come here. He suggested that I came to the club. I said I wanted to leave Juventus, and he was thinking of coming here.
"Neymar coming changes PSG's position for sure. It inevitable that there are expectations. His greatness brings all that.
"There is anticipation because of the football he plays and his will to show it to the world. You take a giant step when you have a player of this level to play against the other teams.
"This team will get a quality leap forward."
Neymar's world-record move more than doubled the previous highest transfer fee, and the 25-year-old is set to make a remarkable £25 million a year after taxes.
But Alves insists he was motivated by his family, not the mega money, when he decided to move to the Parc des Princes.
He added: "I chose PSG for different reasons.
"I consulted my family. To go to Juventus I didn't consult anyone, and that was hard for my wife.
"She had already lived here, she likes the city."
