Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather undercard: Nathan Cleverly to defend WBA light-heavyweight title against Money Man promoted Badou Jack
NATHAN CLEVERLY will defend his WBA light-heavyweight title on the Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather undercard against Money Man fighter Badou Jack.
The Welsh star will take on the Swede, who is promoted by the undefeated boxing icon, on August 26 in Las Vegas.
Alongside Mayweather’s other prodigy Gervonta Davis, who will also do battle at the T-Mobile Arena, Jack will aim to dethrone the Caerphilly hero.
Cleverly suffered crushing defeats to Sergey Kovalev and old rival Tony Bellew in the space of a heart-breaking year.
But he rebuilt his career by taking the WBA strap in October 2016 from Juergen Braehmer.
But Jack now has his eyes on that crown after stepping a weight class and leaving behind his WBC super-middleweight crown.
The Swedish star retained the honour in a magnificent 12-round draw war with Team GB hero James DeGale in January but he instantly revealed he was piling on the pounds to take Clev’s title.
There is the issue of mandatory challenger Dmitry Bivol standing in the way of Cleverly’s payday.

But his promoter Eddie Hearn is confident a deal can be done to get his man on the biggest show in sport.
Hearn told IFL TV: “The deal is done.
"The only issue we have to overcome is we’re just boxing off with Bivol to make sure that the belt can be on the line.
"Now it’s just about making sure that the fight can take place for the WBA world title.”
The WBA says Cleverly and Bivol have 30 days, from July 27, to reach an agreement or the fight will be called to purse bids.
