Martial, who arrived to United to Old Trafford as world football's most-expensive teenager two years ago, has emerged as a fan favourite lately following an impressive pre-season spell.

He was a revelation during his first term at Old Trafford, tallying 17 goals in 49 appearances.

However, the French forward went off the boil and only made 18 starts under Mourinho last term.

The Reds boss has recently expressed his faith in the 21-year-old, so his decision to leave him out of the side appears to irritated a number of United fans.

Martial attracted a keen interest from Italian giants Inter Milan, but Mourinho was adamant that he would remain at Old Trafford.

The Reds are set to take on Swansea today at the Liberty Stadium, kicking off at 12:30.

Martial is up battling against the likes of Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku for a position in the well-knit starting XI.

Mourinho has no secret desire to sign a wide player this summer, but the Portuguese boss was swift to dismiss claims that he was bringing in Ivan Perisic to replace Martial.
