Ronaldo - whose first yellow came for celebrating by taking his shirt off - was suspended for one match for the red and an additional four for the shove.

But despite authorities handing him the minimum penalty, which could have risen to 12 games, the Portugal international hit out on Instagram.

He wrote: "One more incomprehensible decision. From injustice to injustice, they will never bring me down.

"And as always I will come back stronger. Thank you to all who have supported me."

Ronaldo, 32, has already served two games of his ban in the second-leg of the Super Cup and La Liga contest with Deportivo.

Los Blancos won both games comfortably in their talisman's absence.

And Real boss Zinedine Zidane echoed his right-back’s sentiments, adding: “I am annoyed, we are annoyed.

“I do not want to interfere with referees, but when you look at what happened and to think that Cristiano will not play for five games, there is something wrong. Five games is a lot."
