THE AFG Arena was drenched by heavy rain Thursday night as Switzerland faced Andorra in the World Cup Qualifier.
Despite the best efforts of stadium workers to brush away the water, the pitch turned into a slippery, muddy mess that proved to be both sides biggest competition.
The Swiss city of St. Gallen saw 19mm of rainfall over three hours before and during the match, completely soaking the pitch.
The players struggled to stay upright as the waterlogged pitch claimed victim after victim.
Stadium workers rushed on to the pitch during the break to try and wipe away the water, but they were no match for the relentless rain that continued to fall.
Switzerland went on to win 2-1 after a penalty then a header from Admir Mehmedi that found the top right corner as the Andorran keeper slipped in his efforts to make the save.
The Swiss team sits firmly at the top of Group B with 21 points as Andorra are down in 5th.
