Aaron Ramsey explains himself after appearing to slam Arsenal for selling Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool
Gunners star sent the Internet into a frenzy by including the hashtag “Shaambles” in his farewell Instagram message
AARON RAMSEY was forced to explain himself after appearing to slam Arsenal for selling Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool.
Gunners star Ramsey sent the Internet into a frenzy by including the hashtag “Shaambles” in his farewell Instagram message to his former team-mate.
The Welsh midfielder posted: “It is sad to see you go, mate. Not only have we lost a great player, we’ve lost a great guy in the changing room.”
But the addition “Shaambles” sparked speculation that Ramsey was criticising Arsenal for letting the Ox go in a £35million last-day deal.
But Ramsey then revealed on Twitter that “Shaaambles” — with an extra ‘a’ — is a nickname.
Ramsey posted: “Let’s all calm down. ‘Shaaambles’ was a nickname used as a joke for the Ox sometimes around the training ground. #personaljoke.”
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had insisted the England midfielder was not going to be sold in this window.
He had said: “I expect him to stay, one hundred per cent.”
And just days ago, Wenger added: “He is one of the players the team needs to be built around. I want to keep my best players.”
But Oxlade-Chamberlain took a wage of £60,000 a week LESS than Arsenal were offering him because, he said, “I feel that this move is right for the next stage in my ongoing development”.
He turned down a move to Chelsea as he wanted to play in central midfield rather than in a wing-back role.
On Instagram the England ace, 24, wrote: “After six years, three FA Cup wins and countless incredible memories, the time has come for me to move on from Arsenal.”
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said: “I am really, really happy we have got Alex signed. I think he had many options.”
