Ohara Davies stops Tom Farrell in sixth-round to win WBA International super lightweight title in devastating performance

Farrell was floored FIVE TIMES in a massively one-sided fight as Ohara Davies banished memories of his only ever defeat last time out

OHARA DAVIES banished memories of his first ever defeat with a scintillating stoppage of Tom Farrell in Liverpool tonight.

Davies went into the clash for the WBA International super lightweight title on the back of a crushing stoppage loss to Josh Taylor.

But tonight at the Echo Arena, the Hackney fighter had to much for a brave Farrell and answered his critics in fine style.

Davies knocked down Farrell FIVE TIMES in a hugely one-sided affair, before referee Steve Gray finally put the home fighter out of his misery.

From the very first bell it was clear Farrell was massively out of his depth.

With ten seconds to go in the opening round, Farrell was tasting canvas for the first time after "Two Tanks" Davies landed a huge left.

Farrell managed to get to his feet, albeit unsteady, and ultimately it was the bell that saved him.

If the first round was bad for the home fighter, the second was disastrous.

The Liverpool boxer was felled twice more, as Davies demonstrated that punch power that makes him a dangerous opponent at national level.

The next three rounds saw Davies continue to dominate, and while Farrell seemed to regain some composure and landed some jabs now and again, his face became a bloody mess.

Davies, who said pre-fight that he would end it in the fourth or the sixth, decided to stick to his word

He pummelled Farrell with a series of huge lefts again in the sixth round that saw his opponent grounded twice more, before the referee waved off the one-sided affair.

Speaking ringside as he moved his fight record to 16 wins and just one loss, Davies said: "It was redemption, I’m not happy how I performed and I still got things to improve on.

"I look forward to continuing my journey, but I have still got a lot to learn.

"There was a lot of negativity in the gym last time out [versus Josh Taylor], I had so many issues last time out that no-one knows about.

"Since then I have knuckled down and I am back to winning ways and I will continue to do that."

It was Farrell's first defeat since turning professional, and despite a fair bit of needle pre-fight, Davies paid tribute to the beaten man.

He added: "Tom Farrell is a good fighter, I thought he would be out of there in three or four rounds.

"Tom Farrell has such a heart and I have to respect him for that.

"His eye got cut but he didn’t give up like the champion he is. He is still a champion in my eyes."
