BBC have suspended 5 Live presenter after female staff unearthed a string of alleged sexual harassment cases
BBC Radio 5 Live presenter George Riley has been suspended after female co-workers uncovered a string of alleged sexual harassment cases.
Presenters Victoria Derbyshire and Mishal Husain were among those who reportedly encouraged their fellow staff to come forward, with Riley apparently receiving a number of complaints.
What has George Riley been accused of?
Riley has reportedly had sexual harassment claims against him made by five women, dating back to 2013.
Specifics have not been given and the outcome of any complaints so far is unknown.
A group of women featuring Husain and Derbyshire came together due to the exposure of a dramatic gender pay gap at the BBC.
And this group has taken the lead in encouraging alleged sexual harassment victims to come forward.
A source close to the group said: "Complaints about these two men may just be the tip of the iceberg at the BBC.
"This group is formed from some of the BBC's most powerful female talent and editors. It will not stand for sexual harassment of women at the corporation."
And Mishal Husain later released a statement on Twitter to clarify the group's role, saying: "Our group acts as a forum for female colleagues to come together, which many of us wish had existed earlier in our careers and which discusses a wide range of issues, offering support and advice where necessary.
"It is wrong to portray it as being focused on sexual harassment or targeting individuals."
Riley and the BBC are yet to comment on the allegations.
