Brazilian legend Adriano prepares for 2018 return as Flamengo indicate interest

The former Serie A star was cheered by fans as he returned to the pitch for a charity match at the Maracana

BRAZIL legend Adriano has revealed that he is hoping to return to football in 2018.

His career spiralled out of control following the death of his father, but he appears to be back on track after appearing for a charity match.

The 35-year-old star has attracted interest from former club Flamengo, reports .

Adriano returned to the field on Wednesday to feature in a Game of the Stars charity match.

After arriving to the event late, he rushed into the dressing room and charged onto the pitch.

Following his highly anticipated return, the crowds were chanting 'The Emperor has returned.'

Despite being out of action since the beginning of 2016, he produced the goods at the prestigious Maracana.

He saw two attempts rebound off the woodwork, produced an assist and scored a crucial goal for his side.

His team triumphed 7-4 at the 14th edition of the Game of the Stars.

During the interval of the game, the 35-year-old confessed his desire to return to the pitch.

He said: "I'm trying to keep up, I do not gain a lot of weight, it's helping me a lot even to work physically strong, I think everything is going well.

"Going on the right track. Everything has its time. Not only the fans, but my family are waiting for me to comeback."

But following the death of his father, Adriano looked unrecognisable after turning to drugs, alcohol and partying.

The 35-year-old now has support from a host of stars, including Brazilian veteran Zico.

And former Flamengo ace Juan said: "Flamengo is the home of Adriano, is an idol, was highlighted by Flamengo, was raised there, if it really happens it will be a pleasure for all of us.

"It is a question of him with the board but if it materialises the clear negotiation that we will receive him with the open arms."
