Football commentator Alan Green costs BBC an extra £8,000 a season for refusing to carry his own bags
Bosses at the BBC have to hire an extra producer to carry equipment around for the 65-year-old
FOOTBALL commentator Alan Green costs the BBC an extra £8,000 a season because he refuses to carry his own broadcasting kit.
The Radio 5 Live veteran, 65, claims he is physically unable to lug the mic, headphones and small mixing desk to matches.
It means Beeb bosses must hire an extra producer to carry them for him at £200 a pop.
Green, who has fallen out with football managers and colleagues down the years, also stunned bosses recently by demanding a taxi home to Wilmslow, Cheshire, after he missed a train in London.
This cost more than £500 — while producers travelled home by public transport.
A radio insider revealed: “Producers are shocked by Alan’s diva demands.
“He is more than capable of carrying a couple of small bags containing his mic and recording devices to matches, but flat-out refuses.
“And he’s more than happy to demand cabs half way across the country.
"He really has no idea just how much he is costing the Beeb.”
Green has been involved in a number of rows over comments made on air.
Just last month he apologised to Jamie Vardy’s wife Rebekah for saying the Leicester star had his “childminder back” when she finished her stint on I’m A Celebrity.
