Conor McGregor beats off the likes of Tom Brady and Floyd Mayweather to be the most searched for athlete on Google of 2017
He is never usually out of the news, and the stats prove just how much of a global sensation The Notorious is
CONOR McGREGOR was the most searched for athlete on Google in 2017.
One of the biggest sporting nights of last year was when the global megastar switched sports from UFC to boxing to take on Floyd Mayweather.
Things didn't go to plan for McGregor, however, as he was stopped in the 10th round as Mayweather preserved his unbeaten boxing record.
But his popularity remains well intact, as does his untold wealth earned from the cross-codes scrap.
A recent showed that The Notorious was top of the pile of most searched-for athletes in the world.
He beat off the likes if LeBron James, Tom Brady and Stephen Curry, all superstars in their own right.

McGregor is ensuring he is still in the news despite his lack of UFC action - by trying to goad old foe Mayweather to an MMA scrap.

The Irish fighter said Floyd should return the favour after he made the switch to Queensberry Rules last year.
The Notorious said: “If he does do it, I know he’s flirting with it, I would have respect for him. I think it would get his earned respect then, if he was to step in [the Octagon].

McGregor says if the recent videos Mayweather has posted showing him in the octagon are just hype, “it will follow him for the rest of his days that he did not do it".
He added: “Of course, I’m seeing all the stuff Floyd’s putting out, all the stuff in the media.
“If it is [just hype], it will follow him for the rest of his days that he did not do it."
