ENGLAND cricket ace Eoin Morgan took a ball to the face in training for the Tri-series showdown with Australia.
Captain Morgan was working in the field when he was caught in the mush by a James Wood throw.
But the damage cannot have been too bad as both made light of the slapstick moment on their social media pages.
Morgan shared the video with the caption: “Happy Monday #intheface @mawood33,'
And Wood pretended to be concerned that KOing someone of such importance could harm his career, writing: “Note to self... don’t hit the captain in the face.”
A batsman whacked an easy toss-up right into Wood’s hands and he tried to pass it slickly off to Morgan on the overlap, only for ball to floor him with a shot to the face.
The clumsy incident happened at the Bellerive Cricket Oval, where Morgan's side meet the old enemy in their first's match of the series on Wednesday.
England tuned up in style with an eight-wicket victory over the Prime Ministers XI in Canberra on Friday.
Joe Root will be absent after returning home to rest after the ODI series.
Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali have also been rested.
Ben Stokes has been named in England's squad to face New Zealand on February 13.
