claims Real have been encouraged to pursue a switch by Mauricio Pochettino leaving the defender out against Arsenal and Juventus.

Alderweireld was keen to play after declaring himself fit but Spurs chief Poch had other ideas.

The Belgium ace missed three months with a hamstring injury and is now expected to make his return against Rochdale in the FA Cup on Saturday.

His contract demands will stretch Spurs' budget to the limit and Daniel Levy may be forced to cash in or risk smashing the club's pay structure.
