Bolton ready to snap-up German star Jan Kirchhoff to help survival fight after Sunderland release
Phil Parkinson was impressed with free agent's trial spell and Kirchhoff watched the Trotters beat his former club
BOLTON are ready to sign versatile German star Jan Kirchhoff in a bid to help their survival fight.
Kirchhoff, 27, is a free agent since leaving Sunderland, where his spell was disrupted by injuries and he is keen to prove his quality.
Wanderers gave Kirchhoff a trial to impress boss Phil Parkinson and he stayed on to watch his prospective new club against his old one.
Parkinson hopes to agree terms with Kirchhoff on a deal for the rest of the season with the option of longer if he makes an impression.
Bolton have been working with a small squad and are also in the market for a striker as they try to beat the drop.
Nottingham Forest loanee Zach Clough struck last night in a 1-0 win over Sunderland.
The three points moved the Trotters four points clear of the drop zone.
Free-kick specialist Filipe Morais sent over a teasing ball in the 17th minute and Clough got a touch to beat keeper Lee Camp from close range.
