Laureus World Sports Awards 2018: Wales boss Ryan Giggs shows off his skills as ex-Sky Sports anchor Kate Abdo stuns in black dress at glitzy event

Former Sky Sports anchor and ceremony co-host Kate Abdo, 36, looked exquisite as she posed for pictures in a plunging black dress.

Sportsman of the Year winner Roger Federer swapped his tennis gear for a smart tuxedo for the event also hosted by TV and film star Benedict Cumberbatch, 41.

He turned up with wife Sophie Hunter and looked all loved up as they were dropped off for the glitzy ceremony.

Fellow Brit and music star Emilie Sande will provide the entertainment during the ceremony that honours sportsmen and women for their sporting achievements over the last calendar year.

Record eight-time Wimbledon winner Federer, 36, was up against Usain Bolt, Chris Froome, Lewis Hamilton, Rafael Nadal and Cristiano Ronaldo for the men's award.

Serena Williams, 36, saw off Caster Semenya, skier Mikaela Shiffrin, tennis star Garbine Muguruza, swimmer Katie Ledecky and runner Allyson Felix for the women's.

Team of the Year was won by Lewis Hamilton and the Mercedes F1 winning team.

They beat off competition from Real Madrid, the New Zealand Americas Cup winning sailors, NBA team Golden State Warriors, the French Davis Cup side and the New England Patriots for their SuperBowl comeback.

Francesco Totti picked up the Exceptional Achievement Award for his services to Roma and the Italian national team.

Other awards included Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia winning the World Breakthrough of the Year award.

Marcel Hug was the World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability Award after his exploits in wheelchair racing.

The Laureus Sport for Good Award went to youth and community development charity ActiveCN as they help to tackle poverty and social deprivation through sport.

But one of the most heartwarming moments of the night was Brazilian football team Chapecoense winning Laureus Best Sporting Moment of the Year.

The entire team were almost wiped out in a tragic plane crash in 2016 but came back to play last season.
