John Terry targets one more season as a player which could see him face his beloved Chelsea
Before hanging up his boots and pursuing a coaching career, the 37-year-old defender has made it clear he has one more year in him- he may well complete his swansong at Aston Villa with Steve Bruce
JOHN TERRY is eyeing up one more season, which could see him return to Stamford Bridge to play against his beloved Chelsea.
Should Aston Villa manage to return to the Premier League, they may have a boost in the form of the 37-year-old defender.
Terry has made it clear that there is still one more season in him as a player, which could see him receive an inflated pay packet if Villa go up.
He originally chose against joining other Premier League clubs last summer, , he said: "I didn't want to play in the Prem. That was a big thing for me, I didn't want to play against Chelsea."
But he may now have changed his tune after proving himself as a leader at the Championship side.
Steve Bruce would no doubt jump at the chance to hold on to Terry for one more year, despite him becoming a free agent this summer.
Bruce has said: "It's the all-round package with John- what a good captain he is.
"We all associate him with Chelsea but he has left a mark here."
After losing to Bolton yesterday, return to top-flight football is not guaranteed for Villa and they're now seven points off Cardiff City, who sit in second.
Play-offs may be on the cards for Bruce's side, but should they fail to make it into the Prem, Terry would have to take a pay-cut if he were to stay.
It's no secret that Terry has been doing his coaching badges and fans are calling for him and Frank Lampard to return to Stamford Bridge in a coaching capacity.
Having left the Blues after 23 years at the club, he is still considered a club legend- but Villa fans have also taken the leader to their hearts.
Bruce has sung Terry's praises on several occasions and would no doubt be keen for him to complete his swansong in the Midlands, he said: "Before I got here that mentality was losing, but that won't happen on my watch.
"I needed somebody alongside me in the dressing room who thinks exactly the same way, and I've got that person."
