Rory McIlroy’s Masters disappointment soothed with news his golf earnings have topped £40million
Northern Ireland star is still trailing Brit Justin Rose who has won £40.85million from the sport
RORY McILROY’S Masters woe will have been eased by the news his golf winnings have topped £40million.
The Northern Ireland hero finished a disappointing joint-fifth at Augusta, despite making an encouraging start.
The 28-year-old MBE finished on -9 behind American trio Patrick Reed, Ricky Fowler and Jordan Spieth and Spaniard Jon Rahm.
But ESPN still have him seventh in the list of golf’s biggest earners, with plenty of time to catch up on Brit Justin Rose and Americans Jim Furyk and Phil Mickelson.
Returning Tiger Woods is probably too far out in front for McIlory to catch but the Holywood superstar’s fans will enjoy watching him try.
McIlroy enjoyed a promising opening day but finished with a 74 on his final round at Augusta and admitted that was where it was lost.
