Canelo Alvarez denies promoter’s ‘cosmetic’ surgery claims after pulling out of Gennady Golovkin rematch
Mexican will attend a hearing this week with the Nevada State Athletic Commission regarding his two positive tests for low levels of clenbuterol in February
SAUL “CANELO” ALVAREZ has denied getting cosmetic surgery.
The 27-year-old has moved to clear up the confusion caused by comments made from his promoter.
A spokesman for Golden Boy promotions told ESPN Deportes: "Yes, they operated on Canelo Alvarez, but it was cosmetic, there are no more details."
But the Mexican star insists that the procedure was a necessary one after a problem with his right knee.
Canelo said: "I want to share with you that today that I had to undergo a arthroscopic surgery to repair the internal femoral cartilage and to eliminate a fold in my right knee.
"I dismiss the erroneous information published by Golden Boy president Eric Gomez.
"Thanks for worrying, and in three to four weeks I'll be like new."
Canelo will attend a disciplinary hearing on April 18 with the Nevada State Athletic Commission regarding his two positive tests for low levels of clenbuterol in February.
His sample showed trace levels of the banned substance but he has been tested twice since and both results have come back clean.

The middleweight claimed the substance was in his system because of contaminated meat in his homeland.
Canelo wanted to take further tests in an attempt to clear his name and not be pulled for his rematch with Gennady Golovkin on May 5 at the T-Mobile Arena.

But he was handed a temporary suspension by the NSAC and on Tuesday withdrew from the rematch.
Canelo and Golovkin's first fight ended in a controversial draw last September.
That resulted in Golovkin regaining his IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight world titles.
