Legendary racehorse Cue Card retires ahead of schedule
Assistant trainer Joe Tizzard says nine-time Grade 1-winning 12-year-old 'wasn't working quite as well as he can' before planned Sandown send-off
LEGENDARY racehorse Cue Card has been retired ahead of schedule.
The nine-time Grade 1-winning 12-year-old was set to have his send-off at Sandown this month.
But assistant trainer Joe Tizzard said: "We've taken the decision this morning to retire Cue Card.
"He wasn't working quite as well as he can and we didn't want to take him to Sandown if we weren't 100 per cent happy with him."
"We will still take him to Sandown to parade him and to celebrate a great career.
"He has been an incredible horse for us and now he can look forward to a new chapter in his life."

Racegoers at last month's Cheltenham Festival will remember Cue Card being pulled up in the Ryanair.
Some fans thought it was one race too many for the legendary son of King's Theatre.
But that should not overshadow an exceptional career that took in his shock 40-1 triumph in the Champions Bumber at the 2010 Festival.
There was the Ryanair win three years later, three Betfair Chases and a King George VI Chase.
