WWE Raw results: Fans turn on Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns while Ronda Rousey attacks Mickie James

The superstars of the Red Brand are gearing up for The Greatest Royal Rumble on Friday and here are the five things we learnt from the go-home show

WITH WrestleMania and the superstar shake-up finished, it’s like a new season has kicked off in WWE – fresh matchups and never-before-seen rivalries.

But did Raw managed to get fans excited for its brand new start? Here are five things we learnt from the show.

It was far from glorious for Bobby Roode

After last week’s superstar shake-up, it was a chance for Raw’s new signee Bobby Roode to prove his stuff in the ring.

He faced Elias in a decent matchup, but lost when Elias pulled Roode’s head into the top rope (trust us, the ropes are harder than they look) then rolled him up.

It’s obviously the start of a storyline but feels like a disappointing start for Roode – especially after being lumped with Randy Orton and Jinder Mahal for months on SmackDown.

Something about Roode just hasn’t clicked on the main roster – despite him looking and working like a textbook WWE wrestler.

Elsewhere, another former SD star Chad Gable – who we presumed had been brought over for jobber duties – got a surprise win over Jinder Mahal.

The Sami & Kevin Show has come to Raw

Thanks the gods of pro wrestling for Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens – even when they’re losing week-in week-out, they’re still the most entertaining thing on WWE television.

Last night they debuted a new interview segment, the “Sami & Kevin Show”, which was staged to mimic a late night US talk show.

They mocked their guest Kurt Angle with some killer lines, joking about how Kurt desperately needs his job because he has five kids.

KO corrected Sami by saying: “Actually it’s six… you forgot Jason Jordan.”

Sami replied: “No big deal, for years Kurt forgot about him too.”

The japes came to a sudden stop when Kurt scheduled a match for the pair later on the show – against Bobby Lashley and Braun Strowman.

Baron Corbin has spoiled No Way Jose’s fun

Kicking off a feud that nobody wants to see, Baron Corbin ambushed former NXT party guy No Way Jose. During a conga line, no less – what a heel.

The pair were scheduled for a match, but Corbin stormed off because Jose’s “not on his level” (we’ve got bad news for you Bazza – he’s totally on your level).

Corbin then sneak attacked Jose as he led his troupe of dancing buffoons out of the arena.

Jose’s a decent hand but has a dreadful, mid card-4-life gimmick (let’s face it, no one’s dancing their way to the world title) while Corbin’s as dull as he’s ever been.

In case there was any doubt about who the star of the women’s division is, Ronda Rousey had another dominant week on Raw.

She stormed out during a 10-woman tag match, after her pal Natalya was injured by vicious cheap shots from Mickie James.

As Ronda tended to Natalya at ringside, Mickie launched a crafty dropkick at Rousey. The former UFC champ jumped into the ring to suplex James and trap her in the arm bar.

Rousey’s big spot overshadowed both the Nia Jax v Alexa Bliss and Bayley v Sasha Banks storylines.

But don’t expect this to be the start of a Rousey v James programme – Mickie James isn’t on Ronda’s level in WWE’s eyes.

We bet Natalya – who was playing a supporting role on SD – can’t believe her luck that she’s been drafted to Raw and teamed with WWE’s crown jewel superstar.

Braun Strowman > Brock Lesnar v Roman Reigns

Lesnar returned with Paul Heyman to put over his big victory at WrestleMania and set up the steel cage match at the Greatest Royal Rumble with Roman Reigns.

Reigns came out and stared down “The Beast”, and promised to leave Saudi Arabia with the Universal Championship.

The crowd booed both men and there wasn’t any real heat – fans simply aren’t interested in this feud.

Compare that with the thunderous reaction Braun Strowman got his his tag match against KO and Sami Zayn – the crowd exploded for everything he did.

(Unsurprisingly, Strowman got the win for himself and Lashley when he hit a running power slam on Zayn.)

It’s proved two things: Strowman should have been in the main event of WrestleMania and should be the man to take the Universal title from Brock Lesnar.
