Premier League replica kits top £100 on average for first time after Manchester United and Tottenham unveil new strips

Newcastle, Chelsea and Manchester City kits costs a small fortune... but Burnley fans can grab themselves a bargain

PREMIER LEAGUE fans will have to dig deep if they want to buy their team's kit this season with strips now over £100 on average.

The average price of a replica strip has rocketed above the mark for the first time as the 2018/19 season approaches.

Long gone are the days when youngsters were able to save up their pocket to buy their team's jersey.

As kits for the new season begin to surface, fans are finding themselves shocked by the hefty price-tags.

Manchester United supporters were sent into meltdown after it was revealed that the authentic kit will cost £192.

There is a "replica" version available but buying a full kit of that version, with a name on the back, will still cost fans £126.85.

Tottenham used a futuristic method to reveal their new kit, but that did not distract fans from the cost.

The cheapest version of both home and away costs £65, with the 'elite' version priced at a whopping £90.

Burnley fans will be counting their blessing after it was revealed that their team provides the best value in the Premier League.

The Clarets will charge £45 for the shirt alone and the full kit will cost £75.

A spokesman from the Football Supporters' Federation said: "The cost of kits can add up, especially if you have kids, and it would make sense for manufacturers to add a 'use by' date.

"That way supporters or parents know exactly what they're getting and can make a decision as to whether price tag is worth it.

"However, kits aren't an essential item in the way that tickets are, so this isn't an issue that a lot of fans approach the FSF to campaign on."

Newcastle's iconic full kit is the second most expensive in the league at £111, which is £1 more expensive than Tottenham's.

Chelsea fans can get their hands on an 'elite' kit for this season, but they will have to splash out £169.85.

Defending champions Manchester City also offer this option, which costs £159.

The elite options are supposed to be more similar to the shirts that the players wear on the pitch.
