ANDER HERRERA has slated Manchester United's pre-season tour after the defeat to Liverpool.

The Spanish star dismissed the importance of results and claimed that it is more like a "Christmas period".

Jose Mourinho's side were thrashed 4-1 by their Premier League rivals in the International Champions Cup on Saturday.

But Herrera believes the result is irrelevant and that United are suffering due to the lack of first-team players.

Speaking on , he said: "The least important thing is the result right now.

"We are playing with the same players every game.

"It looks like a Christmas period to be honest rather than a pre-season, but it is what it is.

"We have to be all together, to try to have minutes in our legs, to not think too much about the results and let's try to keep improving because the most important thing is Leicester.

"Of course it is never nice to lose. But pre-season is pre-season.

A number of United's stars are enjoying a post-World Cup break, including Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Romelu Lukaku.

Herrera took the chance to praise the youngsters that have been taken on the trip.

He added: "Everyone is giving their best, trying to help us.

"Even the kids, they are doing amazing, they are trying to help.

"But the difference between us and Milan, or Liverpool, is that they have 16 or 17 first-team players and we just have maybe 10."

The 28-year-old midfielder revealed earlier this week that he has no idea if he has a long-term future at Old Trafford.
