Lazio ultras call for women to be BANNED from ‘sacred place’ in stadium causing Serie A sexism storm
Die-hard supporters have told the female fans not to sit in the first ten rows of the Curva Nord
LAZIO'S notorious ultras have called for women to be banned from their "sacred place" in the Stadio Olimpico.
The die-hard supporters used an unofficial flyer to warn "women, wives and girlfriends" to stay out of the first ten rows of the Curva Nord before the Serie A season kicked off on Saturday against Napoli.
It read: "The Curva Nord represents for us a sacred space, an environment code to be respected.
"The first few rows, as always, have been experienced like the trenches.
"In the trenches, we do not allow women, wives and girlfriends, so we invite to them to position themselves from the 10th row back."
After Lazio lost 2-1 to Napoli, club spokesman Arturo Diaconale said: "It is not the position of the club, we are against any discrimination.
"Moreover, there is an enormous number of Lazio fans, this instead is an initiative from a few fans.
"We can't always intervene to avoid politically incorrect displays like this."
The ultras are renowned for their far-right views, racism and violence.
Lazio were fined €50,000 (£44,816) last year after the fans handed out images that showed Holocaust victim Anne Frank wearing a Roma shirt along with anti-semitic messages.
In February 2017, the club were fined after Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly was racially abused by fans.
And the ultras were photographed making Nazi salutes while wearing 'FCK ISIS' T-shirts in October.
In 1998, the die-hard fans held up a banner that read "Auschwitz is your homeland, the ovens are your homes" to Roma fans.
