Warrington boss Steve Price stuns a fan by giving him a LIFT to a game
Aussie also reveals he is a Manchester City fan after being in the crowd at the 2014 Community Shield ahead of Challenge Cup final
STEVE Price admits he found out just what Warrington Wolves mean to the town by stunning a fan and driving him to a game.
Even if his daughter was hesitant about pulling over and offering a lift.
The Aussie boss has turned Wire from under-achievers into contenders in his first season after replacing Tony Smith.
And he revealed how he furthered that connection with the supporters by taking one to a recent match
“I picked up a supporter going to our last home game,” revealed Price. “It was a guy waiting for a bus with Warrington gear on and tattoos all over him.
“My daughter in the front seat was a bit nervous, saying, ‘Don’t pick him up, he looks scary,’ but I said, ‘Where are you off to?’ He said, ‘I’m going to the rugby,’ and I replied, ‘Get in.’
“He actually works at the hospital near my house, he told me what he thought and he was very positive about the club and the direction we’re heading.
“He was a little shocked. I introduced myself and he said, ‘Mate, I know who you are.’ I dropped him off at the Kings Head pub so he could have a couple of drinks.
“I love Warrington and what the people stand for. I’ve loved it here from day one, even though the traffic is horrendous over here!”
Price may have led Warrington to Wembley but Saturday’s clash with Catalans will not be his first experience of the stadium.
When he was travelling in 2014, he found himself watching the Community Shield between Manchester City and Arsenal and his allegiances have pleased some of his squad while others are not so sure, even though the Blues lost 3-0.
Price added: “Wembley is a fantastic place, it feels like everyone’s on top of the game.
“And I became a City fan that day, which pleases Chris Hill. Mike Cooper isn’t happy as he’s a United fan while Harvey Livett and Ben Currie follow Liverpool. We have a good bit of banter!”
