Jamie Carragher claims £31m Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof ‘should not be playing at this level’ after defeat to Tottenham

JAMIE CARRAGHER claimed that Manchester United ace Victor Lindelof is not good enough to play at the highest level.

The Sky Sports pundit slated Jose Mourinho's defence after the Reds were thrashed 3-0 by Tottenham.

Speaking during the post-match analysis, Carragher said: "I actually feel a bit sorry for him [Lindelof], he should not be playing at this level.

"Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have been playing for a long time, and it [the mistakes] shouldn't be happening at this level."

Lindelof, signed from Benfica for £31million, started the match on the bench, with Jones and Smalling picked as the preferred duo by the Special One.

Fellow pundit and Manchester United legend Gary Neville agreed that United's defence needs to drastically improve.

Neville added: "The individual errors - you have no chance if you give away goals like that.

"And its the fact that they conceded such bad goals.

"Defensive errors put trepidation throughout the whole team.

"You lose that confidence and belief - and it's destroying the spirit of the team."
