DAVID BECKHAM'S Major League Soccer team has been named Club Internacional de Futbol Miami - leaving social media users in stitches.
Former England captain Beckham launched plans for the franchise in January - and the club will be commonly known as Inter Miami.
The name, with part of it in Spanish, aims to celebrate "a truly global location that welcomes and embraces all cultures and communities", according to a club statement.
But since the name of his new adventure was revealed this morning, footie fans posted their disbelief on social media.
Tom Harrison wrote that it "sounds like something a 9 year old would name their pro club".
And Manchester United fan John simply posted that it was "embarrassing".
David Cameron Walker wrote: "Beckham's MLS team is called Inter Miami?! Urgh, that's terrible."
Sam Inkersole added: "Pretty sure I’ve come up against a 5-a-side team called Inter Miami playing Powerleague before."
And Jamie Lawson said it reminded him of "a team on sensible soccer if you remember the game".
Twitter user Daniel Raza wrote that the name of Beckham's club is the "most MLS thing ever" before adding: "I hope the MLS introduces relegation and they get relegated."
Many other people posted their disbelief that the former Manchester United and England star had named the team "Inter" when he used to play for "AC" Milan in Italy.
A club emblem has also been unveiled, with a pair of herons - said to represent freedom - as its focal point.
Beckham, Miami MLS owner and president of football operations, said: "This is such a proud day for myself and for the entire team. It's an honour to announce the new name and crest to our fans.
"We are taking another important step in establishing our club and today marks an important moment in the history of Club Internacional de Futbol Miami."
Miami MLS managing owner Jorge Mas added: “Our city and our fans draw their strength from the dreams of a global population that calls Miami home.
"It is only fitting that our name pays tribute to the inclusiveness that makes us who we are.”
