Germany 2 Peru 1: Julian Brandt’s first international goal in over a year seals welcome victory
Joachim Low's men came from behind to secure their first victory since their World Cup nightmare in Russia
JULIAN BRANDT and Nico Schulz found the net as Germany came from behind to secure a morale-boosting victory over Peru on Sunday night.
The four-time World Champions started slowly and found themselves behind after just 22 minutes.
Luis Advíncula burst into the area from the right and smashed the ball home past Ter Stegen’s near post.
That lead was short-lived though as Joachim Low's men hit back within three minutes.
Toni Kroos’ through ball found Brandt inside the penalty area - who cleverly lifted the ball over Pedro Gallese to make it 1-1.
That was the Bayer Leverkusen winger's first goal for his country since finding the net in a 7-0 drubbing of San Marino in June 2017.
Germany continued to dominate possession after the break, but it looked as though they would have to settle for a draw for the second game running.
That was until Nico Schulz hit a late winner - which Low will hope will go some way to erasing their World Cup nightmare - as they look to once again be deemed serious tournament contenders.
