One thing's for sure, if Weigl is to leave the Bundesliga giants it won't be on the cheap.

However, the Manchester City boss could view the £68m fee, , as money well spent.

Guardiola is searching for a long-term replacement for the reliable veteran Fernandinho.

The Brazilian has been a superb servant to City, but will be 34 in May - so Guardiola is intensifying his reach in the market to find a suitable successor.

Firpo only signed a new five-and-a-half-year deal last month - but Guardiola has already earmarked the versatile defender as a potential signing.
