Villans' saviour?

John Terry wanted by Aston Villa again after Chelsea legend rejects Spartak Moscow move

The Villans are short at the back since Terry left in the summer and with his move to Moscow curtailed, he could well be welcomed back into the fold by Steve Bruce

JOHN TERRY is back on Aston Villa's radar after turning down a lucrative move to Spartak Moscow.

The Villans haven't replaced the defender, and former captain, since he left this summer and are short on defending options.

Terry has good relations with many at the club and has spoken fondly about his year with the Championship side, so he'd surely be welcomed back with open arms.

He regularly praises Jack Grealish at Villa and linking back up with the team could well help their promotion hopes.

Villa's start to the season has been less than impressive, having only secured two wins, three draws and a miserable loss where they slumped to 4-1 against Sheffield United.

The 37-year-old was warmly welcomed at Aston Villa but despite a successful season, couldn't quite help them back into the Premier League.

Steve Bruce's side lost a dramatic play-off final to Fulham and Terry parted company with the side after his 12-month contract expired.

But Bruce wants a second stab at promotion with the veteran defender.

After turning down the opportunity to move to Russia, for personal reasons, he is now a free agent again.

Terry said: "After considerable thought, I have decided to decline a contract offer from Spartak Moscow.

"After assessing this move with my family, we've decided this is not the right move for ourselves at this time. Good luck Spartak."

The former England captain has been keeping his fitness up and has been spotted being put through his paces at Chelsea's Cobham training ground this summer.

He clearly isn't ready to call time on his playing career just yet.

And with Villa circling him again, he may be open to the £60,000 a week offer that is reportedly on the table.

The former club and country captain had previously spoken about trying to prolong his playing career for as long as possible.

With his eventual goal being to coach at Chelsea.

His managerial ambitions could well be helped along with an offer from the side that helped to five Premier League titles.

Chelsea are willing to involve club legends, such as JT, as coaches in development teams- much like Liverpool did with Steven Gerrard.
